Risk Based Inspection Campaign
Giko Engineering Ltd was contracted to execute a specialised Rope Access Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspection programme on the Mayo-Abo Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. The scope demanded precision assessments of structural members in locations inaccessible through conventional scaffolding — requiring certified rope access technicians with concurrent NDT qualifications.
Operating in a live offshore production environment, our team delivered comprehensive structural integrity data to the client while maintaining the FPSO operational continuity. Rope access methodology was selected as the optimal access solution — eliminating the cost, time, and HSE risks associated with traditional scaffolding, while enabling access to complex geometries across the vessel topsides and hull interfaces.
All work was carried out under Giko rigorous HSE management system, with full pre-task risk assessments, toolbox talks, and dual rope protection for every man-aloft operation. The campaign was completed with zero lost-time incidents.
What We Delivered
Rope Access Mobilisation
Deployment of IRATA-certified rope access technicians with full man-riding equipment, dual anchor systems, and pre-rigged rescue capability — ensuring safe and immediate access to all designated inspection points across the FPSO.
Ultrasonic Thickness Testing
Precision wall-thickness measurements on structural steelwork, pipework, and deck plating using calibrated digital UT gauges. Readings compared against original design data to identify corrosion-induced thinning and remaining service life.
Magnetic Particle Inspection
Surface and near-surface crack detection on welds, weld toes, and high-stress structural nodes using fluorescent MPI. Performed in restricted areas where visual access alone is insufficient to confirm structural soundness.
Visual Inspection (VT)
Systematic close visual examination of all accessible structural members, coating condition assessment, and identification of physical damage, deformation, or wastage. Findings documented with photographic evidence and location references.
HSE Management
Full pre-task risk assessments, permit-to-work compliance, daily toolbox talks, and continuous safety supervision for every man-aloft evolution. Emergency rescue plans were maintained and tested before each work session.
Inspection Reporting
Detailed inspection reports for each structural element, complete with measured data, photographic evidence, defect classifications, and actionable recommendations — delivered to the client in a structured, traceable format.
